"I need neither Reptile nor Ermac to kill you." - Kotal Kahn to Rain Similarly, I also personally felt it was a little strange that NetherRealm Studios highlighted a certain exchange contained in the intro dialogue of Kotal Kahn and Rain leading up to Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate's release. These little nods are pretty subtle, but we did eventually end up with Mileena and Rain in the roster. Indeed, it really feels like NetherRealm Studios has a history of teasing fans about characters that are not yet playable. One can easily imagine how fans probably wouldn't be too happy with Ed Boon's teasing if all it amounted to was a cameo appearance in Kitana's Friendship.
MORTAL KOMBAT 11 REPTILE UPDATE
This was incorporated as Kitana's Friendship for the Aftermath Edition update before Mileena was announced as a fighter.Ĭonsidering Ed Boon's hilarious insistence to tease Mileena fans about her exclusion, it really did feel like this was more of a hint of plans to add Mileena rather than a disconfirmation. Mileena also makes a special appearance during Kitana's Friendship. Both fighters are able to perform the Super Roundhouse special as a combo extender. It's been over a year since Shang Tsung was released and now Rain is a playable character. Shang Tsung even transforms into Scropion, Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot during his Fatal Blow. As a shapeshifter, Shang Tsung temporarily transforms into palette swaps of the ninja characters to perform a single special before reverting to his normal form. One of the big selling points for Shang Tsung as a DLC character was how he incorporated moves from Rain, Ermac, Reptile and Smoke's movesets. Considering Mortal Kombat 11's history, however, it actually might just be a hint at future content. Under normal circumstances for a fighting game, one might be led to think that Reptile, Ermac and Smoke were disconfirmed as future DLC thanks to their appearance in Rain's Fatality. Of course, all three of these fighters make cameo appearances during Rain's second Fatality as a homage to Queen, the British rock band formed in 1970. It seems like some of the frontrunners for fans right now are Reptile, Ermac and Smoke. There are certainly plenty of fan favorites that have yet to become playable in NetherRealm Studios' latest entry. Even with a roster of 37 characters, each with their own variations, it feels like the possibility of a Kombat Pack 3 and more beyond that still exists.
